Description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.

SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

SpaceXSI is looking for an experienced network engineer with expertise in networking technologies that support routing, switching, dynamic multicast, Wi-Fi, network access control, automation, etc. This position will be directly involved with supporting and expanding our campus and data center infrastructure as well as our expansive wireless network using reliable and redundant design standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of large-scale, complex wired and wireless networks.
  • Configure, install, and support campus and data center networks.
  • Troubleshoot wired/wireless networking-related issues.
  • Support the deployment of network access control (NAC) using 802.1X.
  • Develop and enforce network policies and standards.
  • Plan and prepare project roadmaps.
  • Develop network automation tools to support our enterprise network.
  • Monitor network health using in-house and third-party tools.
  • Create and maintain proper documentation of our networks.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other STEM discipline and 2+ years of professional network engineering experience; OR 5+ years of professional network engineering experience in lieu of a degree.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Expert understanding of the OSI model and network standards.
  • Cisco Catalyst, Juniper, and Arista data center-class switches.
  • Cisco wireless LAN controllers or other wireless technologies.
  • Network Access Control (NAC) using 802.1X.
  • Wave Division Multiplexing and Fiber Optics.
  • DNS, DHCP, SNMP, IP helpers, ARP, CDP, LLDP.
  • BGP routing.
  • Switch port security features.
  • Network monitoring tools.
  • Network documentation.
  • Linux/Windows system administration.
  • Experience with Python scripting.
  • Industry-standard certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, or JNCIE.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • This role requires you to be onsite. Hybrid or remote work will not be considered.

About this role

Xai's SpaceXSI division is building the infrastructure for large-scale artificial intelligence systems, and this network engineer role sits at the center of that effort. You'd be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining both the wired and wireless networks that support their campus and data center operations—work that directly enables their Colossus supercomputers and AI models. This means hands-on involvement with enterprise-grade switching and routing, network access control, Wi-Fi deployment, and the automation tools needed to keep complex infrastructure running reliably.

The role demands deep technical expertise across multiple networking domains: data center-class switches from Cisco, Juniper, or Arista; wireless LAN controllers; fiber optics and wavelength division multiplexing; and core protocols like BGP, DNS, and DHCP. You'll also develop automation tools, likely using Python, and maintain documentation and monitoring across the network stack. A CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent certification is preferred, though not required if you have five or more years of hands-on network engineering experience.

This is a full-time, hybrid-eligible position in Memphis, though the job description specifies that you must be onsite—remote work is not an option. You'll need to be available for extended hours and weekends when needed, and you must have a valid driver's license. The role suits someone with solid foundational knowledge who's ready to work on infrastructure at significant scale.
