What do I actually send?
What they asked for and nothing else. Usually a résumé, sometimes a letter, occasionally a portfolio or writing sample. Extra attachments read as not following instructions, not as enthusiasm.
Do I need a portfolio if I'm not a designer?
Not a portfolio, but evidence helps in any job that makes something. One page of what you shipped and what changed does the same work for an analyst or an ops lead as a portfolio does for a designer. Keep anything confidential out of it.
Can I apply for more than one role there?
Two or three that genuinely fit, sure. A dozen says you don't know what you want, and they can see all of them. Pick the closest and mention you'd consider the neighbours.
How many jobs should I be applying to?
Fewer, better ones. The tailored application is the one that gets read. Both extremes fail though: fifty copies of one résumé lands nothing, and so does spending a week on a single application.
