About this role

Akumen is looking for a Senior Network Engineer to own the design, implementation, and security of enterprise network infrastructure across LAN, WAN, WLAN, and cloud environments. You'd manage the full lifecycle of network systems—from configuring routers, switches, and firewalls to monitoring performance, troubleshooting outages, and planning modernization initiatives. The role also involves close collaboration with cybersecurity teams on compliance and vulnerability remediation, plus on-call incident response duties.

This position requires at least five years of hands-on experience with enterprise networking platforms like Cisco, Palo Alto, or Juniper, combined with solid fundamentals in routing protocols, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, VPN, and network security. An active Secret clearance or higher is mandatory. Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or Security+ are preferred, as is prior exposure to federal or DoD environments and cloud networking on Azure or AWS.

The role is contract-based, in-office in Washington, DC, with a salary range of $130,000 to $160,000. This is a fit for someone with deep networking credentials who wants hands-on infrastructure work in a government-adjacent setting and can commit to the clearance requirement.
