About this role
Supporting independent insurance agents and financial professionals across American Equity and American National's annuity business, this role sits at the intersection of customer service and relationship building. You'll handle inbound calls from agents seeking product guidance, procedural clarity, and post-sale support, while also proactively reaching out to onboard new partners, promote company events, and identify growth opportunities. The work demands strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate multiple software systems—from CRM platforms to illustration tools—while consistently meeting performance metrics around call handling and quality.
The ideal candidate brings either a bachelor's degree or 2+ years of progressive relationship management experience in insurance or financial services (or 3+ years in customer service or operational sales roles). You'll need solid Microsoft Office skills, mathematical aptitude, and the composure to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Professional designations like AAPA, ACS, or FLMI are valued but not required. This is a hybrid position based in Des Moines with opportunities to support the broader enterprise, including American National in Houston.
Beyond day-to-day support work, you'll mentor Sales Support Specialist Level I employees as they advance, provide feedback to leadership on agent and partner needs, and occasionally represent the company at events. It's a role suited to someone who thrives in a structured, metrics-driven environment while genuinely enjoying the relationship-building side of financial services.
