About this role

BHE Renewables is seeking a Network Engineer 2 to manage and evolve enterprise network infrastructure supporting a major Midwest utility serving over 1.6 million customers across four states. You'll configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, and wireless systems while deploying new technologies in line with architectural standards and compliance requirements. The role emphasizes automation—you'll develop Python and Ansible solutions to improve operational consistency and scalability—alongside traditional hands-on support of WAN routing, LAN switching, data center operations, and enterprise wireless networks.

This position requires a CCNA certification or equivalent large-enterprise experience, plus demonstrated expertise in Cisco ISE for network access control, enterprise routing and switching design, and data center infrastructure. You'll participate in change management and security processes, monitor network performance, coordinate vendor relationships, and provide Tier 2 escalation support. The role includes on-call rotations and after-hours maintenance, and demands strong communication and analytical skills to juggle multiple concurrent projects.

A bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field is preferred; candidates without one will need at least three to four years of directly related technical experience. This is a full-time, in-office position based in Des Moines, Iowa.
