About this role
BHE Renewables is seeking a Network Engineer at the level 2 or 3 to own the design, implementation, and ongoing management of network border security infrastructure—firewalls, DDoS mitigation, routing and switching equipment, and load balancers. The role extends to planning secure integrations with public and private cloud environments and serving as a technical authority on complex network projects, guiding design decisions and troubleshooting across teams. You'd collaborate with security, infrastructure, and application groups to ensure network edge solutions meet enterprise standards while driving improvements in resilience and performance.
The position requires either a bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent work experience, with a minimum of two years (level 2) or five years (level 3) in data networking or telecommunications. You'll need expert proficiency in at least two of five technology domains—core routing, core switching, network security, network diagnostics, or application load balancing—plus advanced knowledge across the others. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and contribute to incident response and continuous improvement efforts.
This is a hybrid, full-time role based in Des Moines, Iowa. Candidates must have current work authorization and cannot require sponsorship of any kind. MidAmerican Energy Company, BHE Renewables' parent, is a major Midwest utility with substantial wind generation assets across four states.
