Engineering @ VivCourt
Engineering is the backbone of trading here. We’ve laid a strong foundation, but plenty remains to be done. As an engineer, you’ll own meaningful projects - from refining systems to leading major upgrades - supported by a collaborative team that values well-designed solutions.
We’re looking for pragmatic engineers who are fast when it counts and precise when it matters.
Join our IT Operations Team
As a key part of our IT Operations team, you will maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize our high-performance, low-latency infrastructure. This role focuses on ensuring the resilience and security of systems located at global exchanges, running on enterprise bare-metal hardware, FPGA-accelerated components, and low-latency network architectures. You'll work directly on infrastructure where nanosecond-level latency decisions have real financial consequences.
Who you are:
- Proactive & Curious: You spot operational issues before they escalate and actively hunt for improvements.
- Deep networking, non negotiable: You design at core and WAN level, not just configure. BGP, OSPF and firewall policy are yours to own, and you debug from packet captures. Working knowledge isn't enough - you'll be asked to justify your design choices, not just apply them.
- Analytical Thinker: You are detail-oriented with strong reasoning skills, allowing you to think several steps ahead.
- Agile Problem Solver: You respond quickly and confidently to incidents, staying composed under pressure and making sound decisions fast.
- Experienced Professional: You bring substantial experience (typically 5+ years) delivering precision and stability within complex, mission-critical infrastructure environments.
What you’ll do:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL): Support, tune, and optimize RHEL systems running on bare-metal hardware and hypervisors for low-latency, high-performance execution.
- Network Operations & HA: Maintain highly available routing and multicast environments using BGP, OSPF, PIM, and IGMP, with hands-on experience across colocation and on-prem switching and connectivity.
- Security & Resilience: Design and implement security controls and disaster recovery procedures for mission-critical financial infrastructure, with direct input into risk and architecture decisions.
- Planning & Coordination: Lead maintenance windows and operational upgrades, coordinating across internal teams and external exchanges and colocation providers under time-sensitive conditions.
- Automation: Improve our configuration management, observability, and operational tooling (Ansible, Zabbix, Python).
Why VivCourt?
- No shareholders. Our profits fund social impact.
- Performance + purpose. We aim to be one of the best trading firms in the world while contributing to a better one.
- Flat structure, fast decisions. You’ll have access, ownership, and autonomy.
- People-first culture. Real humans. Low ego. High standards
About this role
VivCourt's IT Operations team needs someone to own the infrastructure that powers their global trading operations—systems where latency measured in nanoseconds directly affects financial outcomes. As Network Specialist Engineer, you'll maintain and optimize high-performance, low-latency environments across bare-metal hardware, FPGA-accelerated components, and enterprise network architectures deployed at exchanges worldwide. This means designing at the core and WAN level, not just configuring; you'll work with BGP, OSPF, multicast protocols, and firewall policy while supporting RHEL systems tuned for precision execution. You'll also lead security design, disaster recovery planning, and operational upgrades coordinating across internal teams and external exchange partners.
The role demands substantial experience—typically 5+ years—in complex, mission-critical infrastructure, paired with genuine depth in networking fundamentals and the analytical rigor to justify design choices under pressure. You'll be expected to spot operational issues proactively, debug from packet captures, and respond confidently to incidents. Beyond firefighting, you'll improve their automation and observability tooling using Ansible, Zabbix, and Python. This is a contract position based in-office in Sydney, Nova Scotia, suited to someone who thrives on precision work, ownership of meaningful projects, and the autonomy to make fast decisions within a flat organizational structure.
