Responsibilities
- Design network solutions for TMG’s automated trading infrastructure
- Implement and maintain a high availability, low latency network infrastructure
- Troubleshoot network and network related issues
- Collaborate with other team members on new technology solutions
- Work with other teams within the firm to address technological issues
- Proactively monitor the network and provide capacity planning
- Participate in the on-call support rotation and some weekend work
- Mentor junior engineers from a technical perspective
Requirements
- Seasoned engineer, ideally with a CCIE, experience building and maintaining production financial/trading networks
- Experience with multicast and unicast routing protocols (TCP/IP, PIM, BGP, OSPF)
- Experience with the design, deployment, and operation of modern IP multicast networks
- Working knowledge of low latency networking concepts
- Experience with firewall administration and site to site VPN
- Some hands-on required for data center work
- Deep understanding of the TCP/IP stack
- Experience with packet capture and tcpdump analysis tools
- Knowledge of high accuracy timing protocols
- Experience with network management software and tools
- Scripting language experience such as python for network automation, testing, and troubleshooting
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- This position requires physical presence and is onsite (no remote work)

About this role
TransMarket Group, a Chicago-based proprietary trading firm, is seeking a seasoned network engineer to design and operate the infrastructure supporting its automated trading operations. This role demands deep expertise in financial-grade networking—specifically low-latency, high-availability systems built on modern IP multicast and routing protocols. You'll be responsible for the full lifecycle of network solutions, from architecture and deployment through ongoing optimization and troubleshooting, working directly with trading and technology teams to solve real-time problems in a mission-critical environment.
The ideal candidate brings production experience with financial or trading networks, ideally demonstrated by a CCIE certification, along with hands-on proficiency in TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, PIM, firewall administration, and packet analysis. You'll also need scripting skills (Python preferred) for network automation and the ability to work on-site in Chicago, including on-call rotations and occasional weekend support. This is a position that values both technical depth and collaboration—you'll mentor junior engineers while contributing to a firm that has operated profitably for over 40 years and sees itself as having significant room to grow.
