Description

Company Overview:

Beam Therapeutics is a biotechnology company committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines. To achieve this vision, Beam has assembled a platform with integrated gene editing, delivery and internal manufacturing capabilities. Beam’s suite of gene editing technologies is anchored by base editing, a proprietary technology that is designed to enable precise, predictable and efficient single base changes, at targeted genomic sequences, without making double-stranded breaks in the DNA. This has the potential to enable a wide range of therapeutic editing strategies that Beam is using to advance a diversified portfolio of base editing programs. Beam is a values-driven organization committed to its people, cutting-edge science, and a vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

About this role

Beam Therapeutics is launching its first commercial gene therapy and needs experienced market access leaders to drive payer negotiations and patient access across defined regions. As Director, Field Market Access in Minneapolis, you would own reimbursement strategy and payer relationships for a specific geographic territory, working directly with commercial and government payers to secure coverage and pricing for the company's portfolio, including risto-cel for Sickle Cell Disease. This is a field-based role requiring roughly 50% travel and close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Medical Affairs, Key Account Managers, and Gene Therapy Operations.

The position demands at least 10 years in pharma or biotech with 5+ years in market access, including prior field experience. You'll need established relationships with commercial payers and preferably Medicaid, along with demonstrated success negotiating coverage for complex therapies at hospitals and payer organizations. Buy and bill experience is required; cell or gene therapy background is preferred. Beyond relationship-building and negotiation, you'll educate treatment centers on billing, coding, and reimbursement best practices, troubleshoot individual patient access issues, and monitor local payer trends to inform strategy.

The role sits at $210,000–$260,000 base salary and suits someone comfortable operating in a structured pod model where clear functional accountability matters alongside cross-functional collaboration. If you have deep payer contacts, a track record closing complex therapy coverage deals, and the appetite to shape access for an emerging gene therapy platform, this is a direct entry point into Beam's commercial expansion.
