Description

What we're up to

Kalshi has launched the first regulated financial exchange that allows people to trade on the anticipated outcome of events. We’re now looking for the right people to help us continue to grow and scale.

Our vision is to allow people to capitalize on their opinions and hedge risks that relate to their everyday lives, from "Will CPI rise more than 0.5% this month?” to "Will 2023 be the hottest year on record?"

We're on a long journey in uncharted territories and are looking for passionate and outlier members excited to embark on this voyage towards building the future of the financial system.

Role Roadmap

We are seeking a detail-oriented and business-savvy Legal Associate (Market Contracts) to help design, draft, and safeguard the contracts that power our markets. You’ll own the legal frameworks that govern trading on Kalshi, from rulebooks and market terms to clearing agreements and regulatory filings.

In this role, you’ll ensure every market contract is clear, compliant, and scalable. You’ll partner across teams to translate regulatory requirements into practical agreements that let our markets expand quickly while maintaining full regulatory confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Contract Development
    • Draft, review, and refine contracts that govern how our markets operate, including event contract specifications, trading terms, clearing documentation, and participant agreements.
    • Collaborate with Product and Risk to ensure market structures meet both business needs and regulatory standards.
    • Build standardized templates and rulebooks to streamline how new markets are launched and maintained.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Alignment
    • Ensure all market contracts comply with CFTC regulations and other applicable laws.
    • Work closely with compliance to incorporate rule changes, disclosure requirements, and governance standards into contracts.
    • Stay ahead of regulatory developments affecting event contracts and derivatives markets.
  • Cross-Functional Legal Partnering
    • Partner with Growth and Partnerships teams on agreements with institutional traders, liquidity providers, and vendors.
    • Translate complex regulatory and legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
    • Act as a business-minded partner during negotiations, balancing legal precision with market growth.
  • Process & Infrastructure
    • Develop scalable systems for contract lifecycle management, including drafting, negotiation, and archiving.
    • Identify opportunities for automation and streamlined review processes across market and trading agreements.
    • Support broader legal operations, including governance, risk, and reporting.

Qualifications

  • J.D. and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 2–4+ years of legal experience, ideally:
    • (1) at a mid- or large-sized law firm practicing commercial law, or
    • (2) practicing law related to financial markets and/or regulatory affairs.
  • Applicants with experience in the prediction market industry are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Strong foundation in drafting and negotiating contracts that govern markets, trading, or financial products.
  • Familiarity with CFTC regulations and the legal framework for event contracts, derivatives, or exchange-traded products.
  • Detail-obsessed, pragmatic, and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where law, markets, and innovation intersect.
