About this role
Vercel is looking for a backend engineer to own the infrastructure behind user and identity management at scale. You'll build and operate TypeScript and Node.js services that handle enterprise authentication, group management, and access control—working with identity standards like SCIM, OAuth2, and SAML. This role demands hands-on security expertise and the ability to design systems that stay reliable under production load, including on-call responsibilities.
The position requires at least five years of engineering experience with solid depth in TypeScript, Node.js, SQL, and REST APIs, plus practical knowledge of identity protocols and access control models like RBAC and ABAC. You'll use Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Kubernetes to deploy and scale applications on AWS. Collaboration across teams is built into the work—you'll ship large projects with cross-team dependencies rather than working in isolation.
This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco or New York City, with three in-office days per week. The salary range is $196,000–$294,000 depending on experience and location, plus equity, healthcare, flexible time off, and professional development support.
