You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.

Senior Product Designer, Knowledge Graph

This is a remote position based in Canada (East Coast Canada preferred, open to other time zones for exceptional candidates).

The Opportunity:

As a Senior Product Designer at Grafana Labs, you will join a growing Product Design organization of more than 25 designers, researchers, engineers, and design leaders distributed across six continents. You will work within a 100% remote R&D organization, so strong, proactive remote communication, collaboration, facilitation, and relationship building skills will be essential to your success.

As Senior Product Designer for Grafana Cloud’s Knowledge Graph, you'll design experiences for the context layer of Grafana Cloud that powers our entity graph, entity catalog and RCA workbench. Knowledge Graph automatically discovers services, infrastructure, and databases from the telemetry teams already have, maps how they depend on each other, and runs anomaly detection. This gives engineers, SREs, and their agents an up to date picture of their systems. We want anyone to be able to understand a system and resolve an incident faster, without writing queries or maintaining alert rules, not just the one person who happens to know it best.

Over time, you will develop deep expertise in your product area and associated customer and user personas, use cases, and workflows, which will enable you to design tailored, role-driven experiences.

You will also have an opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the Product Design team at Grafana by coaching and mentoring other designers, collaborating on team internal initiatives, and helping evolve new ways of working, learning, and having fun together as the team scales.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Enabling customers to easily understand and explore how their systems connect to each other. Find clear, simple ways to show complex, constantly-changing information without overwhelming the user
  • Translate research and data to experiences that are easy to digest and break down complexity
  • Tailor the experience to different target audiences, covering multiple user perspectives
  • Work cross-functionally with peers and leaders in engineering, product management, technical writing, and GTM functions, as well as other members of the Product Design team
  • Prioritise for delivering impact while balancing business priorities, customer wishes and technical considerations
  • Document user needs and pain points, design directions, UX trade-offs, and detailed designs for specific features and enhancements
  • Execute research and contribute to quantitative and qualitative research initiatives with researchers, cross-functional collaborators, customers, and members of the Grafana user community

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • 7+ years of relevant design experience working on B2B/enterprise software products, ideally designing tools and services for developers or other highly technical users
  • A portfolio of effective designs for complex products delivered in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience running qualitative research in complex fields, building empathy with users and humans, their needs and pain points even when you have very little in common with them
  • Ability to make design decisions that appropriately balance business goals, product priorities, customer feedback, research insights, and technical considerations
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple locations and time-zones to iteratively ship and evolve products while keeping the end design vision in mind
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn about a complex, very technical product space
  • Experience working in a fully-remote, fast-paced environment where you are expected to share openly, default to transparency, and embrace your autonomy

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience designing complex, data-dense interfaces with a focus on clarity
  • Ability to rapidly gain an understanding of a technical domain and associated customer needs and user workflows in order to design effective experiences within that domain
  • Domain knowledge or experience related to observability, cloud infrastructure, and/or database monitoring
  • Experience helping design teams, especially at engineering led companies, level up their practice, collaboration with partner functions, and user and organizational impact

When you apply, please:

  • Provide an example of an experience where decision-making in a complex area is made easy through a well-curated UI. Add a sentence or two about what you believe makes it effective.

Compensation & Rewards:

In Canada, the Base compensation range for this role is CAD $150,822 - CAD $180,986. About this role

Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Product Designer to lead design for Knowledge Graph, a core part of Grafana Cloud that automatically maps how services, infrastructure, and databases depend on each other. You'd own the user experience for the entity graph, entity catalog, and root cause analysis workbench—tools that help engineers and SREs understand complex systems and resolve incidents faster without deep domain knowledge. The core challenge is making sense of constantly-changing, interconnected data without overwhelming users, then tailoring that experience across different technical roles and perspectives.

You'd work within a distributed R&D organization of 25+ designers across six continents, collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, technical writers, and go-to-market teams. The role expects strong async communication, proactive relationship-building, and the ability to balance business priorities against customer needs and technical constraints. Beyond execution, there's room to mentor other designers and help shape how the design team evolves as it scales.

This role suits someone with 7+ years designing B2B enterprise software for technical users, ideally with a track record shipping complex products in fast-moving environments. You should be comfortable running qualitative research, translating findings into clear designs, and rapidly learning a technical domain—in this case, observability and cloud infrastructure. Experience designing data-dense interfaces and familiarity with observability tools would be valuable. The position is remote, based in Canada (East Coast preferred), with a base salary of CAD $150,822.
