About this role
DigiCert is seeking a Senior Principal Full Stack Engineer to lead the design and operation of backend systems that power their PKI, DNS, and certificate lifecycle management platform. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll spend roughly a fifth of your time developing and maintaining backend services for large-scale distributed systems, with the remainder split between architecting solutions, building APIs, optimizing high-throughput workloads, and managing DNS-based services at scale. You'll work across the full stack—from designing system architecture and data models to implementing CI/CD pipelines and operating cloud infrastructure in production.
The role demands deep expertise across multiple domains. You'll need at least five years of professional experience each in Java backend development, Spring Boot frameworks, RESTful and gRPC API design, AWS cloud infrastructure, relational and NoSQL databases, CI/CD implementation, and distributed systems concepts. Additionally, you should have two years of DNS architecture and networking experience. This is genuinely a senior-level position that expects you to guide other engineers on system design while solving complex problems in fault tolerance, observability, and performance optimization.
Based in Sterling, Virginia, the position offers in-office work with flexibility to telecommute up to three days weekly. The salary range is $179,000–$215,000 annually, with comprehensive benefits including health coverage, 401(k) matching, paid parental leave, wellness programs, and professional development support. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field is required.
