Thank you for choosing Dallas ISD for your Resident teaching assignment.
This application is strictly for selected resident teachers enrolled in one of the Dallas ISD approved residency programs.
- Co-Teaching:
- Residents will work with students in a host teacher's classroom.
- Resident classroom responsibilities increase over the course of the school year and include facilitation of small group instruction and tier II intervention, co-facilitating the classroom management system, co-facilitating procedural routines & transition activities.
- Small Group Instruction:
- Residents participate in a small group differentiated instruction experience that is designed to provide an opportunity to work intensively with a small group of students from the host classroom.
- Residents assess and analyze student data, plan and teach data-driven lessons.
- Residents select a small, inclusive group of students that they will support in an identified content area.
- Residents create and deliver targeted tier intervention supports to the selected student group.
- Substitute Teaching:
- Residents may substitute teach in or out of host teacher's classroom.
- Formative Assessments & Diagnosing Student Needs:
- Interpret and report the results of formal and informal assessment to support appropriate instruction.
- Develop an educationally appropriate Individualized Education Program (IEP) including levels of performance and standards aligned IEP goals and objectives.
- Formally report and discuss formal assessment results with key stakeholders, to include grade level/content area teachers.
- Classroom Management:
Residents implement classroom management with an emphasis on importance of building positive relationships and mutual respect with learners.
Residents enact classroom management strategies which sustain a strong teacher presence in the classroom.
Residents deliver effective, precise instruction that lead to desired student outcomes.
- Residents plan and implement a classroom management system that includes classroom routines, as well as procedures for reinforcing consequences.
- Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.

About this role
Dallas ISD's Resident Teacher program is designed for candidates already enrolled in one of the district's approved teacher residency programs. You'll spend the 2026-2027 school year in a structured co-teaching environment, gradually taking on more classroom responsibility alongside a host teacher while developing core instructional and management skills.
Your work will center on three main areas: co-teaching and small group instruction, where you'll assess student data, plan differentiated lessons, and deliver targeted interventions; substitute teaching as needed; and building classroom management systems grounded in positive relationships and clear procedures. You'll also interpret formal and informal assessments, contribute to IEP development where appropriate, and communicate results with grade-level and content-area colleagues. This is a campus-based position requiring regular, punctual attendance throughout the district.
