About this role

Dallas Independent School District's Student Transportation Services is hiring on-call CDL bus drivers for a 185-day position that centers on safe, reliable student transport. You'll operate assigned routes moving students between home, school sites, and field trips while maintaining full responsibility for passenger safety, conduct, and compliance with traffic laws and district policy. The role demands consistent attention to detail: pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, accurate record-keeping, proper wheelchair and seatbelt securing, and immediate reporting of accidents, delays, or maintenance issues through the Samsara system. You'll also manage discipline documentation and ensure students exit with their belongings.

This position requires a Texas CDL (Class A or B) with Passenger and School endorsements, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to pass DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening. Beyond licensing, the district is looking for someone punctual and dependable who can work flexibly, accept dispatcher assignments on short notice, and handle multiple priorities without compromising passenger safety. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—matter for coordinating with supervisors, parents, and school staff. Bilingual capability is preferred. You'll need to be at least 21, maintain a driving record meeting district standards, and demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving ability in a role where you're the primary authority figure on the bus.
