Watson Candidate Assistant is here to answer questions about working at Dallas ISD.

About this role

Dallas Independent School District's 365-day CDL trainee program is designed for someone ready to commit to obtaining a Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements. The role combines structured classroom instruction with hands-on behind-the-wheel training, requiring you to study independently, pass five written knowledge tests, and successfully complete a three-part road test within the program timeline. You'll work closely with the Safety and Training Team, absorb feedback during training drives, and maintain consistent communication throughout—perfect attendance and reliability are essential to completing on schedule.

The position suits candidates at least 21 years old with a valid Texas driver's license and a high school diploma or equivalent. You'll need to pass DOT medical and drug tests, meet the district's driving record standards, and be able to operate air brake vehicles. The role starts at $16.50 per hour during the non-CDL phase, scaling to $25.86 per hour once you obtain your CDL with no endorsements, capped at 20 hours weekly. Bilingual capability is preferred, and you must demonstrate strong communication skills and the judgment needed to work safely around students.
