About this role
Working in Dr. Palko's ophthalmology research lab at WVU's Health Science Center, you would support investigations into how iris shape and ocular diseases affect iris recognition technology. The role centers on hands-on clinical work: capturing iris images using specialized equipment, extracting and organizing patient demographic and clinical data, annotating image features like iris color and pupil size, and assisting with the computational analysis that follows. You'd also contribute to preparing research findings for publication, moving from data collection through to manuscript preparation.
This position suits someone with a bachelor's degree and at least six months of relevant research or clinical experience who brings strong organizational skills and attention to detail. The work demands initiative in managing projects independently and the ability to problem-solve as issues arise. Writing ability matters here, as you'll help translate experimental results into publishable form. If you're drawn to ophthalmology research and want hands-on involvement in a specific clinical investigation, this offers a concrete entry point.
WVU emphasizes work-life balance with a 37.5-hour week, 24 vacation days annually, 18 sick days, and 13 paid holidays. The benefits package includes health insurance options, a 401(a) retirement plan with 6% employer match, and wellness programs. This is a full-time, in-office role based in Morgantown.
