About this role

Hearst Health's Houston Chronicle is looking for a Director of Finance to manage financial operations for a major local media business undergoing digital transformation. You'll own the monthly close process, lead P&L and forecasting reporting to senior leadership and Hearst's centralized finance teams, and oversee advertising accounting—a critical revenue stream in media. The role demands both technical depth in accounting and the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for non-finance leaders across the organization.

This position suits someone with 8+ years of progressive finance experience and prior leadership in a comparable role. You'll need strong fundamentals in close processes, internal controls, and audit support, with advertising accounting and media industry experience as significant advantages. Proficiency with Oracle ERP, planning systems, and advanced Excel is expected; interest in AI-driven automation and process improvement is valued.

Beyond the numbers, you'll develop and manage a finance team, partner closely with department heads on budgeting and cost control, and support the VP of Finance and Publisher with ad hoc analysis and strategic recommendations. Success here requires operational discipline, clear communication, and the ability to balance detailed execution with big-picture business thinking in a fast-moving environment.
