About this role
Isar Aerospace is building a new launch site in Canso, Nova Scotia, and needs a Ground Safety & Compliance Engineer to establish and maintain the safety framework from the ground up. You would serve as the primary safety focal point during the development phase, working with the launch site operator and regulators to embed safety into facility design, hazardous processing areas, and operational procedures. This includes developing emergency response plans, conducting hazard assessments and risk reviews, and supporting licensing applications. Once operations begin, your focus shifts to coordinating hazard analyses, tracking safety actions, improving processes, and ensuring ongoing compliance across ground operations and payload processing.
The role demands at least five years of safety or operations experience in high-hazard industries—aerospace, aviation, defense, oil and gas, chemical processing, or similar fields. You should have hands-on familiarity with hazardous operations involving propellants, explosives, pressurized systems, or cryogenics, along with demonstrated competence in risk assessment, safety reviews, and regulatory compliance frameworks. A technical degree in aerospace, safety, systems, mechanical, or nuclear engineering is required. Experience with launch vehicles or spaceport operations is valuable but not essential.
Expect an extended onboarding period at Isar's headquarters in Germany or launch site in Norway, with flexible arrangements during the initial development phase. The position is full-time and based in Canso, working in-office. This is a foundational role for a new facility, offering the opportunity to shape safety culture and processes from inception while contributing directly to commercial spaceflight operations.
