About this role
Astranis builds satellites for high-orbit communications serving governments, enterprises, and the U.S. military. This twelve-week summer internship places you on the network software team in San Francisco, working on the UI and backend systems that manage satellite and ground networks. You'll collaborate directly with network operations to solve real problems—past interns have shipped hardware and software to orbit, and many have converted to full-time roles afterward.
The work centers on designing and implementing user interface components and backend workflows using Django or similar frameworks, with hands-on experience in SQL databases like Postgres. You'll move quickly from prototyping to fully developed features, working across multidisciplinary teams to define requirements and architecture. The role expects you to own projects end-to-end: design, write, and test software independently.
You should be currently enrolled in a computer science, electrical engineering, or computer engineering degree program. Experience with Django and relational databases is valued, along with a demonstrated ability to rapidly prototype and build UIs with user experience in mind. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or protected status is required due to space technology export regulations. The position pays $29 per hour.
