About this role

Astranis designs and operates satellites in high orbit for government and enterprise customers with demanding security and uptime requirements. This twelve-week summer internship puts you on the harness design team—the engineers responsible for the electrical wiring systems that connect spacecraft subsystems. You'll create wiring diagrams, schematics, and 3D CAD layouts, work with cross-functional teams to define how different parts of the satellite interface with each other, and collaborate with in-house production to fabricate cables. The work is hands-on: you'll apply electrical fundamentals to select components based on voltage, power, and data-rate requirements, and use CAD software to route harnesses through the physical spacecraft design.

This role is open to current students pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or an equivalent technical field. You should have a solid grasp of power and data transmission concepts and genuine interest in learning how spacecraft systems work. Prior experience with harness design software like Zuken, familiarity with aerospace connectors and wire types, or proficiency in 3D CAD tools like Solidworks would strengthen your candidacy, though these aren't required. The internship is based in San Francisco and requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or protected refugee/asylee status due to export regulations governing space technology.
