About this role
Astranis builds satellites for high orbits serving major enterprises, governments, and the US military. As a Harness Design Engineer Intern, you would join the harnessing design team for a twelve-week assignment working on flight and test harnesses that will operate in space. The work involves creating wiring diagrams, schematics, and layout drawings; routing harnesses in 3D using CAD; and collaborating across subsystems to define electrical interfaces. You'll apply fundamentals in power and data transmission to select components that meet specific voltage, power, frequency, and data-rate requirements, and coordinate with the in-house production team on cable fabrication.
This role suits students currently pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related technical field who want hands-on experience with spacecraft systems. Familiarity with power and data transmission concepts is expected. Experience with harness design software like Zuken, knowledge of connectors and wire types, or proficiency in 3D CAD tools like Solidworks would strengthen your candidacy, though these are not required. The internship is based in San Francisco and requires in-office work. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or asylee status is required due to export regulations governing space technology.
