Description
Who we are
Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.
Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.
Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.
This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.
We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.
If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.
What you’ll do
- Lead electrical system design and analysis — power distribution, service entrance design, panel/switchgear sizing, lighting, and emergency/standby power — for new and retrofit facilities across Atoms' portfolio.
- Prepare electrical calculations, drawings, and specifications for permit submittal across multiple jurisdictions.
- Design power distribution and charging circuits for EV/AV charging and support infrastructure, including coordinating transformer and service upgrades.
- Partner with utility providers to secure power availability, service upgrades, and timely energization for new sites.
- Partner with Structural, Building Design, Civil, and MEP consultant teams to resolve system conflicts and keep designs constructible and cost-effective.
- Review and respond to plan check comments from Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and utility providers to keep permitting and energization on schedule.
- Evaluate vendor and manufacturer electrical equipment submittals (switchgear, EV charging hardware, backup power systems) for code compliance and site suitability.
- Support construction administration, including RFIs, submittal review, and field observation for electrical systems.
- Build and refine standardized electrical details and design templates that can be reused across Atoms' different business lines to support rapid, repeatable deployment.
What we’re looking for
- 7–10 years of electrical engineering experience, including design for commercial, industrial, or high-power facilities
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; ability to obtain additional state licensure/reciprocity as needed
- Demonstrated experience with power distribution, service entrance, and panel/switchgear design
- Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70/70E, and local utility interconnection requirements
- Experience preparing permit-ready electrical drawings and independently managing AHJ and utility plan review/energization cycles

About this role
Atoms is deploying robots into real-world industrial environments—food production, mining, transport—and needs an electrical engineer to design the power and electrical infrastructure that makes these operations possible. This role centers on designing electrical systems for new and retrofit facilities across the company's growing portfolio: power distribution, service entrance and switchgear sizing, EV/AV charging infrastructure, emergency backup power, and lighting. You'll prepare permit-ready calculations and drawings for multiple jurisdictions, coordinate with utilities to secure power availability, manage plan review cycles with authorities and utility providers, and work alongside structural, civil, and MEP teams to keep designs buildable and cost-effective.
The ideal candidate has seven to ten years designing electrical systems for commercial, industrial, or high-power facilities, holds a PE license (or can obtain one), and knows NEC code, utility interconnection requirements, and the full lifecycle of permit and energization processes. Beyond technical depth, you'll own the responsibility of building standardized electrical details and templates that let Atoms replicate designs quickly across different business lines—turning one-off engineering into repeatable systems.
This is a full-time, in-office role in San Francisco with a base salary of $149,000–$175,000, equity eligibility, and standard benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and discretionary vacation.
