About this role

Ascension's Patient Attendant Lead role in Nashville is a supervisory position that bridges frontline patient safety and nursing leadership. You would oversee Patient Attendants across hospital units, ensuring they maintain continuous observation protocols, follow behavioral health safety procedures, and respond appropriately during patient crises. This includes conducting unannounced spot-checks, auditing observation logs, coordinating sitter coverage with Charge Nurses and House Supervisors, and serving as the main escalation point when urgent patient care or staffing issues arise on the floor.

The role demands strong de-escalation skills and the ability to mentor staff in crisis management and patient reorientation techniques. You'll need to understand clinical documentation requirements—particularly the 15-minute observation checks and the orders that govern sitter placement—and work closely with virtual monitoring systems to optimize resource allocation. This is hands-on leadership: you're present in the hospital, solving real-time problems and holding your team accountable to policy.

To qualify, you need either a high school diploma plus two years of relevant experience, an associate degree plus one year of experience, or five years of direct experience in this type of work. BLS certification and crisis prevention training are preferred. This full-time, in-office position suits someone with patient care or behavioral health background who is comfortable with both the clinical side of observation protocols and the people management side of leading a team.
