At BHE Renewables' compressor station in Ithaca, you would operate and maintain natural gas compression equipment, managing everything from startup and shutdown procedures to routine monitoring and minor repairs. The work involves continuous oversight of engines, compressors, and auxiliary systems—checking pressures, temperatures, fluid levels, and recording data—along with hands-on maintenance tasks like drip blowing, tank emptying, and equipment servicing. You'll also operate computerized station controls to adjust pressures and route gas as directed, prepare written reports, and keep the facility safe and orderly.
This role demands mechanical aptitude and comfort with both equipment and systems. You'll need at least three months of documented experience in industrial equipment, engines, compressors, or related natural gas work (or equivalent military or technical education), plus basic computer skills and a valid driver's license. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in confined or awkward positions, often in challenging weather and around noise, chemicals, and moving equipment.
The position requires flexibility: you must be available for callouts and willing to work overtime as needed, with occasional overnight travel. If you're someone who works well independently or as part of a crew, can follow safety procedures closely, and are looking for steady full-time work in natural gas operations, this could be a solid fit.
