About this role
Kharon works at the intersection of global security and international commerce, helping major financial institutions and multinational companies understand and manage complex risks around sanctions, export controls, and illicit finance. As a Research Analyst in their Washington D.C. office, you'd conduct open-source research on foreign affairs and national security issues, updating and developing datasets while identifying new sources and building subject matter expertise. The work involves analyzing sanctions environments, regulatory landscapes, and compliance matters, then translating that research into actionable intelligence that feeds Kharon's platform.
This role demands strong foundational skills: a degree in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, or a related field; at least two years working with SQL and/or Python in research or academic settings; and proficiency reading in Russian, Arabic, Mandarin, Farsi, or another critical language. You'll need a solid grasp of global sanctions and international regulations, plus the analytical rigor to identify risk-relevant patterns and data typologies from complex information.
The position is full-time and hybrid, requiring four days per week in the D.C. office. Compensation ranges from $65,000 to $75,000, with standard benefits including fully sponsored medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401k with matching and immediate vesting, and paid time off plus eleven paid holidays. This suits someone with research experience and technical skills who's drawn to national security work and wants to apply their expertise to a rapidly growing company solving consequential problems.
