About this role

SEO is seeking an Advisory Instructor to teach high school students in its college-prep program serving first-generation and underrepresented scholars across the country. Working entirely online via Zoom, you'll teach approximately two periods of advisory to 9th–11th graders using SEO's original curriculum, with instruction scheduled for select Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons (8:45 AM–2:15 PM). The role runs through mid-May and includes 13 hours of self-paced training before the program begins.

Your core responsibilities center on student-centered instruction: delivering rigorous lessons aligned with SEO's framework, facilitating engaging discussions around identity, mentoring, and current events, and hosting open-door tutoring sessions. You'll also navigate the learning management system and instructional tools the program uses, collaborate closely with other instructors and your assigned coach, and adapt lessons to meet individual student needs. The work demands comfort with technology, responsiveness to feedback, and genuine investment in supporting high school students' paths to college.

This role is best suited for educators with a Bachelor's degree, K–12 teaching certification or equivalent classroom experience, and strong expertise in ELA or Humanities. You should be skilled at working with technology platforms, grounded in student-centered pedagogy, and genuinely interested in exploring systemic challenges with young people. The position pays $40 per hour and does not include benefits.
