Description

About Re:Build

At Re:Build, our mission is to ensure the next generation of important products are made, at scale, in America. We are laying the foundation for a better future for our customers, employees, and communities by revitalizing America's manufacturing base and creating meaningful jobs across the country, including in historically deindustrialized regions.

We operate an advanced, end-to-end manufacturing platform that partners with industrial companies and innovators to take products from first concept to full-scale production in critical verticals including aerospace and defense, electrification, medical, energy and environment, and robotics and automation.

The way we operate is as important as the work we do. It's guided by The Re:Build Way, 16 principles that shape how we collaborate with each other, partner with our customers and vendors, and contribute to the communities where we operate. (link to The Re:Build Way principles)

Who we are looking for

The IT Forward Deployed Engineer works within the IT team to compose, develop, and deploy AI-enabled automation solutions. These solutions update and simplify IT operations across the organization and improve the end user experience. This role focuses on minimizing manual work, reducing waste, improving operational execution & consistency, and accelerating delivery by applying AI, scripting, infrastructure‑as‑code, and intelligent workflow orchestration across all major IT domains. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of IT systems, strong automation skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and operational teams.

What you get to do

  • Understand and analyze requirements, i.e. performance, scalability, availability, and security requirements
  • Develop AI‑powered automations to transform Incident Management, Service Request Management, Problem Management, operational improvements, Knowledge Management, and other IT processes.
  • Through AI and other tools, automate provisioning, configuration, patching, compliance, and lifecycle workflows across server, compute, storage, network, database, and endpoint environments.
  • Implement AIOps capabilities to correlate alerts, identify patterns, predict failures, reduce noise, and complete automated remediation actions.
  • Streamline monitoring, backup, recovery, archival, and application deployment processes through intelligent automation.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code templates, testing workflows, and automated pipelines for continuous integration and continuous delivery using AI‑assisted development tools.
  • Support DevOps initiatives with automated validation, policy enforcement, deployment safeguards, and repeatable runbooks.
  • Build AI‑assisted cloud optimization workflows, including rightsizing, resource cleanup, forecasting, and tagging normalization.
  • Automate workflows associated with purchasing, budgeting, financial reconciliation, hardware lifecycle management, and software asset management.
  • Improve project intake, planning, and prioritization activities using advanced estimation, dependency analysis, and scheduling support.
  • Produce comprehensive documentation, including automation guides, operational runbooks, architectural diagrams, and training materials.
  • Partner with IT leadership and multi-functional collaborators to identify automation opportunities and drive adoption across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other IT engineers and security team to ensure systems are available, interoperable, performant, and meet cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate, mentor, and work with team members where cross team needs exist.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all processes.

What you bring to the Team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of IT systems engineering experience across servers, networks, storage, cloud, databases, and end user and endpoint management.
  • Industry leading certifications are preferred
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or comparable technologies, with a strong foundation in API utilization and systems integration.
  • Demonstrated experience with M365 or equivalent experience and the Microsoft ecosystem (For example: on-premise/cloud, Azure, Entra, Endpoint management, Server, Active Directory, Intune, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in hybrid, multi-forest, multi-tenant, and multi-cloud architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly understand new or complex technical ecosystems and operational workflows, and to design appropriate integration approaches.
  • Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and deliver results in environments with evolving or ambiguous requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with enterprise operational teams, particularly within areas such as manufacturing, quality, engineering services, or supply chain operations.
  • Hands‑on experience with large language models (LLMs), generative AI pipelines, and agent‑based automation frameworks, including tool orchestration and retrieval‑augmented generation.
  • Familiarity with AI‑assisted IT operations tools, AIOps platforms, or LLM‑based agents.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret logs, metrics, traces, and other telemetry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform or Ansible and CI/CD pipeline automation.
  • Familiarity with observability platforms, monitoring systems, SIEM/SOAR tools, and automated remediation frameworks.
  • Experience supporting financial processes, purchasing workflows, asset management, or cloud cost optimization.
  • Background in internal engineering, platform operations, or IT automation roles.
  • Experience in regulated government environments (GCC High, AWS GovCloud, etc.)

About this role

Re:Build is building America's advanced manufacturing platform, and this role sits at the intersection of IT operations and AI innovation. As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer, you'd own the design and deployment of AI-enabled automation solutions that streamline IT across the organization—from incident management and service requests to infrastructure provisioning, cloud optimization, and even financial workflows. The work spans multiple domains: you'd implement AIOps capabilities to predict and remediate failures, build infrastructure-as-code pipelines, develop LLM-powered agents for operational tasks, and drive continuous improvement across all major IT systems. This is hands-on engineering work focused on eliminating manual toil and improving consistency at scale.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of IT systems engineering with deep expertise across servers, networks, cloud, and endpoint management, paired with strong programming skills in Python and proven experience with the Microsoft ecosystem. What sets this role apart is the explicit requirement for hands-on experience with large language models, generative AI pipelines, and agent-based automation frameworks—this isn't a traditional IT ops role retrofitted with "AI" in the title. You'll also need the ability to work in ambiguous environments, collaborate across manufacturing and operational teams, and rapidly understand complex technical ecosystems to design appropriate solutions.

The position is fully remote with 25% travel expected. You'd work within Re:Build's IT team but partner closely with leadership and cross-functional collaborators to identify opportunities and drive adoption, making this as much about organizational change as technical execution.
