Description

WESH 2 and CW18 are part of Hearst Television and operate from a state-of-the-art facility in Orlando, Florida. Our station supports nine networks, two production control rooms, IP-based audio and video infrastructure, and a wide range of live productions.

In addition to WESH and CW18, our engineering team also supports WMOR-TV in Tampa, providing exposure to multi-station operations and centralized broadcast workflows.

As a flagship station within Hearst, we are frequently among the first to deploy and test new broadcast and IT technologies. Our engineering team supports high-profile live events, including major sports coverage, remote broadcasts, and community initiatives such as the OUC Marathon and Share Your Christmas.

This is a fast-paced, technically  advanced environment where you will gain hands-on experience across broadcast systems, IT infrastructure, and live production workflows.

We are seeking a Broadcast Systems Technician (BST) to join our Technology team. This role is responsible for maintaining and supporting both broadcast and IT systems that keep our stations on the air and operating at a high level.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong technical foundation who enjoys troubleshooting, learning new systems, and working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

You will work across a wide range of technologies including networking, servers, broadcast equipment, and live production systems.

  • Travel as needed to transmitter sites, remote locations, and live event venues
  • Document systems, workflows, and technical procedures
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and IT team members to support station operations and new technology deployments

Requirements

  • This role participates in a structured, rotating schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends. The rotation is designed to provide balanced coverage while ensuring exposure to all aspects of station operations.

  • Experience with managed network switches and IP-based systems
  • Supporting servers, workstations, and network infrastructure
  • Familiarity with broadcast equipment and production environments
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, VPNs, and LAN environments
  • Experience with Windows desktop and server operating systems
  • Cisco, VMware, Microsoft, or similar certifications
  • SBE certification
  • Military or technical training background
  • We also encourage candidates with strong IT, AV, or technical aptitude who are interested in learning broadcast systems to apply.

About this role

Hearst Television's Orlando stations operate a sophisticated, multi-station broadcast environment that serves as a testing ground for emerging technologies across the Hearst network. This Broadcast Systems Technician role sits at the intersection of broadcast engineering and IT infrastructure, supporting everything from daily news operations to high-profile live events like major sports coverage and community broadcasts. You'll maintain and troubleshoot both broadcast and IT systems, handle preventative maintenance, support remote productions, and work with networking equipment, servers, and live production infrastructure across WESH 2, CW18, and WMOR-TV in Tampa.

The position demands a solid technical foundation in networking, servers, and Windows environments, ideally backed by hands-on experience with managed switches, IP-based systems, and TCP/IP networking. Relevant certifications—whether Cisco, VMware, Microsoft, or SBE—strengthen your candidacy, as does military or formal technical training. However, Hearst welcomes strong IT or AV technicians with genuine interest in learning broadcast systems from the ground up. You'll work a rotating schedule covering early mornings, evenings, and weekends, with occasional travel to transmitter sites and remote event locations.

This is a collaborative, fast-paced environment where you'll gain exposure across multiple stations and cutting-edge broadcast workflows. If you're someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex systems, learning new technologies, and working as part of a technical team, this role offers real breadth of experience within a major media company.
