Description

Role Overview

Cover the people, places and cultural moments that matter most to Dallas—from the biggest names to the next big thing.

The Arts & Entertainment Reporter at The Dallas Morning News will deliver smart, engaging journalism across the arts, entertainment and pop culture landscape—from updates on Landman and other Taylor Sheridan shows to news about local TV anchors, Post Malone’s latest collaborations and King of the Hill reboots.

This is a fast-paced job focused on breaking news, what’s trending and expanding the conversations readers are having online about high-interest topics. Ideal candidates will be well-versed in using social media to generate pitches and report stories. They will also bring knowledge of TV, pop music, movies and more.

This is a reporting role first. We’re looking for a strong journalist who can develop original stories, find compelling local angles and give readers useful ways to experience Dallas. Celebrity coverage and high-interest entertainment stories will be an important part of the job, alongside service journalism and repeatable story formats such as neighborhood guides that spotlight Dallas arts, culture, music, nightlife and things to do.

What You’ll Do

  • Report and write compelling, accurate stories across arts, entertainment and pop culture, with a strong focus on the people, places and stories that matter to Dallas-Fort Worth readers.
  • Cover breaking and trending news and local celebrity stories, quickly turning high-interest developments into smart, authoritative journalism.
  • Cover high-interest entertainment topics, including Taylor Sheridan productions and other television, music, movies, theater, books, visual arts and cultural stories.
  • Use social media and audience signals to identify story ideas, understand what readers care about and participate in relevant cultural conversations.
  • Build strong digital stories using effective headlines, SEO, links, tags, multimedia and platform-appropriate presentation.
  • Collaborate with editors and newsroom colleagues to develop coverage that connects with digital audiences and reflects the breadth of Dallas’ arts and entertainment community.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • At least two years of daily reporting experience, preferably covering arts and entertainment.
  • A strong portfolio of clips demonstrating high-level reporting, writing and storytelling skills.
  • Excellent news judgment, accuracy, speed, curiosity and grammatical precision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for arts, entertainment and pop culture, including music, television, movies, theater, visual arts and local culture.
  • A strong sense of what will interest readers, with the ability to turn that instinct into distinctive stories with strong local relevance.
  • Experience covering breaking news, trending topics and/or celebrity news while maintaining journalistic standards and accuracy.
  • Strong headline-writing skills and an understanding of SEO and digital storytelling best practices.
  • Experience using social media for newsgathering, story development and audience engagement.
  • Proficiency with digital content management systems and newsroom tools.
  • Understanding of how to tailor stories for different digital platforms and audiences.
  • Familiarity with digital news analytics and using audience insights to inform coverage.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Valid driver’s license and registered vehicle to travel to assignments.

About this role

Hearst Health's Dallas Morning News is seeking an Arts & Entertainment Reporter to cover the cultural pulse of Dallas-Fort Worth—from Taylor Sheridan productions and local celebrity news to music, theater, visual arts and the city's broader entertainment landscape. This is fundamentally a reporting role that demands strong journalism skills: you'll develop original stories with local angles, break news quickly, and identify what matters to readers by monitoring social media and audience signals. The work spans service journalism (neighborhood guides, things-to-do coverage) alongside high-interest entertainment stories, all built for digital platforms with attention to headlines, SEO and platform-specific presentation.

The ideal candidate brings at least two years of daily reporting experience, ideally in arts and entertainment, with a portfolio demonstrating solid reporting, writing and storytelling. You'll need genuine enthusiasm for pop culture, TV, music and film; strong news judgment and accuracy; and the ability to work fast in a competitive newsroom without losing journalistic standards. Experience covering breaking news and celebrity stories is important, as is comfort using social media for newsgathering and understanding how to shape stories for different digital audiences. You'll also need proficiency with content management systems, familiarity with analytics, headline-writing skills and a valid driver's license for assignment travel.

This is an in-office, full-time position in Dallas. Hearst offers medical, dental and vision coverage; a retirement plan with matching; paid time off including parental leave; mental wellness benefits; and various family and dependent care supports. U.S. work authorization is required; immigration sponsorship is not available.
