About this role

TORC Robotics is seeking a Safety Driver Trainer/Auditor to support its autonomous truck testing operations in Wortham, Texas. This contract role bridges training delivery and compliance oversight, requiring someone with both commercial trucking expertise and the ability to teach and evaluate others. You'll spend roughly 80% of your time developing and delivering training programs, conducting audits using in-cab event recorders, coaching drivers, and maintaining qualification records for IFTD (In-Vehicle Fallback Test Driver) personnel. The remaining 20% involves actively driving Class 8 autonomous trucks during testing shifts—typically 1–2 shifts per week—to stay current with vehicle dynamics and inform future training improvements.

The ideal candidate holds a Class A CDL with at least five years of tractor-trailer experience, plus three to five years delivering safety training in regulated environments. You'll need solid knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA requirements, strong Microsoft Office and audio-visual skills, and the ability to work variable hours including early mornings, evenings, and overnight shifts. A bachelor's degree in education, engineering, business management, transportation, or safety is required. This role demands someone who is self-directed, analytically sharp, and genuinely committed to safety—you'll be identifying improvement opportunities, analyzing incidents, and coaching drivers to meet exacting standards.

The position offers a salary range of $101,500–$121,800 and places you within TORC's Fleet Training & Compliance team, part of the Daimler family and a pioneer in autonomous vehicle software since 2007. If you have the CDL hours, safety training background, and comfort moving between classroom instruction and hands-on truck operation, this role offers direct involvement in an emerging technology while maintaining the rigor of commercial motor carrier compliance.
