Description

Join the Jetvia Team

Jetvia has provided world class executive jet charter services for over 35 years, built on the pillars of safety, dependability, and transparency. We pride ourselves on delivering a refined travel experience that prioritizes the security and time of every guest.

We believe in supporting our team members first so they are empowered to provide exceptional service to our clients. We operate with an ownership mindset where accountability is the standard and egos are left at the door. If you are a professional who values a safety first foundation and thrives in a culture of mutual respect, we invite you to help us lead the next chapter of our history.

The Role

Reporting to the VP of Finance, Jetvia’s Controller runs our accounting operations and month-end close. You will own the general ledger, the close, payroll accounting, fixed asset and aircraft accounting, and internal controls. You will also be the day-to-day owner of NetSuite now that we have moved off QuickBooks, which means identifying and implementing the clean-up and integration work that follows a system change. This is a fast-paced role at a growing company.

What You'll Do

Close and reporting

  • Own the month-end and year-end close: calendar, accruals, reconciliations, consolidation, and review of the trial balance and financial statements.
  • Keep management reporting tied to the GAAP financials, and explain variances in plain language to finance and operations leaders.

Payroll accounting

  • Reconcile each payroll register to the general ledger every pay cycle, and book payroll accruals for PTO, bonuses, commissions, and pilot pay components such as per diem and mileage-based pay.
  • Reconcile payroll tax, 401(k), and benefit deduction liabilities, and confirm that taxable and non-taxable earnings are coded correctly across states.
  • Work with People to keep pay codes, deductions, and the payroll-to-NetSuite mapping accurate when pay practices change.

NetSuite and systems

  • Own NetSuite day to day: chart of accounts, period close settings, user roles, segregation of duties, and integrations with payroll, billing, and spend tools.
  • Finish the post-migration work: reconcile opening balances, correct mapping problems, retire QuickBooks workarounds, and write procedures so no process depends on one person.

Accounting and compliance

  • Maintain fixed asset and aircraft accounting, including depreciation, engine and maintenance events, and component tracking.
  • Apply revenue recognition policy for charter, membership, and empty-leg revenue, and Federal Excise Tax treatment, in line with policies the VP of Finance sets.
  • Prepare and support Federal Excise Tax returns, property tax, sales tax, and 1099 reporting, and work with outside tax advisors.
  • Coordinate external audit and tax work: prepare schedules, answer requests, and track findings to closure.
  • Build and document accounting policies and internal controls that fit a growing, regulated aviation business.

Management

  • Manage and develop the accounting team, set clear close deadlines, and cover gaps hands-on while the team grows.

Qualifications

Payroll experience and experience integrating after a system change are required, not preferred.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years leading accountants as a controller, accounting manager, or similar.
  • Hands-on payroll experience: reconciling payroll to the general ledger, payroll accruals, payroll tax, multi-state employees, and benefit and 401(k) deduction reconciliation.
  • Experience owning the work after an ERP or accounting system change, such as a QuickBooks to NetSuite move: reconciling opening balances, fixing mapping and integration problems, and rebuilding the close process on the new system.
  • Working knowledge of NetSuite or a comparable mid-market ERP.
  • Strong command of GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606) and fixed asset accounting.
  • Track record of running a month-end close on time and keeping reconciliations current.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with non-finance leaders.
  • Comfort in a lean team where you review work and also do it.

Preferred

  • CPA.
  • NetSuite experience, particularly connecting a payroll platform to NetSuite.
  • Experience in aviation, charter, or another asset-heavy transportation business, including aircraft accounting and Federal Excise Tax.
  • Public accounting or external audit experience.
  • Experience at a high-growth, private-equity-backed, or family-owned company.
  • Familiarity with Ramp or a similar spend management tool.

About this role

Jetvia, a 35-year-old executive jet charter company, is looking for a Controller to lead its accounting operations and manage the transition from QuickBooks to NetSuite. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you'll own the month-end and year-end close, general ledger, payroll accounting, fixed asset and aircraft accounting, and internal controls. This is hands-on leadership in a growing company where you'll both manage the accounting team and do the work yourself, particularly during the critical post-migration period.

The role demands specific expertise: you'll need at least eight years of progressive accounting experience with three-plus years leading accountants, plus proven payroll reconciliation skills and direct experience implementing an accounting system change. NetSuite knowledge is required, as is a strong grasp of GAAP, revenue recognition, and fixed asset accounting. You'll handle the nuances of aviation accounting—aircraft depreciation, engine events, component tracking, and Federal Excise Tax treatment—alongside multi-state payroll tax compliance and external audit coordination.

Jetvia offers competitive salary based on geography, immediate stock option vesting, a 401(k) safe harbor match, choice of medical plans including a fully employer-paid HDHP option, and dental and vision coverage. The company values accountability, transparency, and mutual respect, and prioritizes supporting team members so they can deliver exceptional service to clients.
