About this role
LightFeather is hiring a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to design and operate cloud infrastructure for federal agencies, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure-as-code, automation, and compliance. The role centers on Azure platform expertise—managing core services like virtual machines, networking, storage, and Azure Virtual Desktop—paired with hands-on Terraform development, PowerShell scripting, and GitLab CI/CD pipeline work. You'll be responsible for securing these environments against federal standards (NIST, FedRAMP, RMF) and troubleshooting performance issues for end users, all while collaborating with security and engineering teams on ongoing modernization efforts.
This position requires at least five years in cloud engineering, DevOps, or systems administration, with a minimum three years each in Azure, Terraform, GitLab, and CI/CD work, plus four years with PowerShell. You must hold or be able to obtain a Secret-level security clearance and be a U.S. citizen. The salary range is $130,000–$170,000 depending on experience. The hybrid arrangement is based in Washington, D.C., requiring on-site presence four days per week; remote work is not a long-term option for this role.
Prior experience in DoD or federal agency environments, as well as familiarity with Azure serverless services or Kubernetes, would strengthen your candidacy. This is a full-time position suited for someone with deep hands-on cloud infrastructure skills and a genuine interest in federal IT modernization.
