About this role
Friendship Hospital for Animals' Nephrology team is looking for an experienced veterinary technician to provide direct nursing support in one of the few programs in the country offering dialysis and kidney transplant care for animals. Working alongside board-certified nephrologist Dr. JD Foster and nephrology residents, you'd manage dialysis sessions, handle complex renal cases, and serve as a key communicator between the clinical team and clients. This role demands strong foundational skills—IV catheterization, phlebotomy, advanced monitoring, and anesthesia support—and rewards them with access to cutting-edge equipment and genuine specialty medicine work.
The position runs Monday through Friday on a four-day, 10-hour schedule with some on-call shifts required. You'll need at least five years as a credentialed technician, ideally in specialty or critical care settings, though a genuine interest in nephrology can matter as much as prior direct experience. Compensation ranges from $28 to $35 per hour based on your background, and the hospital offers solid benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage, a 401k match, generous PTO and continuing education allowance, and metro access in D.C. The environment is explicitly built around collaboration, learning, and inclusivity—qualities the hospital emphasizes as central to how the team operates.
