About this role
Friendship Hospital for Animals is looking for a Veterinary Technician to join its Diagnostic Imaging department at their AAHA-accredited specialty and emergency hospital in Washington, DC. This role centers on performing radiographs across a range of studies—thoracic, abdominal, musculoskeletal, and specialized procedures—while maintaining ALARA radiation safety standards. You'll work closely with radiologists and imaging team members, coordinate with other departments on sedated procedures, and support additional imaging modalities like ultrasound as needed.
The position requires solid foundational skills: competency with x-ray equipment, animal restraint, venipuncture, IV/IM sedation, and patient monitoring during recovery. You should be comfortable with Fear Free handling techniques and familiar with common sedatives and veterinary medical terminology. Basic computer proficiency rounds out the technical requirements, as you'll also handle invoicing entry and digital records.
The schedule runs four 10-hour shifts per week with some on-call responsibility. Compensation ranges from $25 to $33 per hour with shift differentials, and the benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage; an HSA/FSA option; generous PTO and CE allowance with support for VTS advancement; 401(k) matching; and professional dues reimbursement. You'll have access to advanced equipment and specialty services on-site, plus metro discounts and pet care perks.
