About this role

Fort Worth's Transportation Public Works division is seeking a Senior Professional Engineer to lead the city's Vision Zero initiative, focusing on eliminating traffic fatalities through safer sidewalks and school routes. You'd manage a small team of three while developing and implementing safety projects across the city—from coordinating public requests and field investigations to overseeing infrastructure work like crosswalks, sidewalk improvements, and pedestrian lighting. The role sits at the intersection of community engagement and technical problem-solving, requiring you to translate resident concerns into actionable safety countermeasures and manage construction projects from concept through completion.

To qualify, you'll need a civil engineering degree, a Texas PE license, and three years of professional experience with at least two focused on traffic safety studies or implementation. Preferred candidates have hands-on experience with traffic safety audits, design standards like AASHTO guidelines, and construction project management. The position offers a hybrid arrangement after probation (typically one to two remote days weekly), standard city benefits including a pension, and a $5,000 sign-on incentive.

This role suits engineers who want direct impact on public safety and community outcomes rather than purely technical or desk-based work. The salary range is $93,574–$121,646 annually, with standard Monday–Friday hours (7am–4pm) plus occasional evening or weekend work as needed.
