Description

Vannevar builds AI systems for the Department of War's most consequential missions. We have 125 deployments across every branch and combatant command spanning our core platform and five distinct products. An an example of how we work, when major combat operations started with Iran, we fielded a new product supporting 24/7 operations and 9,000+ users in three months.

How we build is our advantage: we deploy forward with the people who own the mission. Our engineers, product team, and CTO deploy forward to the point of friction, including visiting units in Ukraine. We focus on embedding directly with operational units supporting great power competition with China, combat operations with Iran, and counter-narcotics missions.

About the role

  • Proficient with containerization technologies like Docker.
  • Excellent with Python, Bash, or other scripting languages.
  • Experience working in an agile scrum environment and also an ability to work independently.
  • Able to quickly learn new and existing technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical capabilities.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access U.S. only data systems and export-controlled data.
  • TS/SCI with FSP Clearance required
  • Ability to commute/travel to DC customer site up to 50% of the time

Additional Qualifications (Nice to haves)

  • Experience working in AWS GovCloud.
  • Experience in data processing with the Department of Defense and/or the IC.

About this role

Vannevar Labs builds AI systems for U.S. military and intelligence operations across the Department of Defense, and this DevOps Engineer role owns the build and deployment infrastructure that keeps those systems running at scale. You'd be responsible for platform health, CI/CD automation, logging and monitoring, and the multi-account AWS environment that supports both commercial and classified deployments. The work directly impacts how quickly the company can field new capabilities—the job description notes they deployed a product supporting 9,000+ users in three months during active operations, and your infrastructure decisions will shape whether that pace continues.

This role requires 5+ years of DevOps or software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in AWS, CI/CD processes, infrastructure as code (Terraform or Pulumi), containerization, and scripting languages like Python or Bash. You'll need to balance simplicity with the complexity of operating in both standard and high-side classified environments, and communicate those trade-offs clearly to your team. Experience with monitoring tools like Datadog, GovCloud, and DevSecOps practices is valued; prior work with the Department of Defense or intelligence community is a plus.

The position requires U.S. citizenship, an active TS/SCI clearance with FSP, and willingness to travel to the Washington, DC customer site up to 50% of the time, though the role is otherwise remote. Vannevar offers competitive benefits including health coverage, unlimited PTO, lifestyle stipends, and fully paid parental leave.
