Description

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join Source Meridian.

About Source Meridian

Source Meridian is a development software company that works to solve the industry’s most challenging problems in healthcare practices. We are laser focused on specific technologies in the healthcare and life science industries: Healthcare technology, artificial intelligence, and healthcare interoperability.

About the Role

Our client runs a data platform for the specialty pharmacy market and is standing up a new data engineering team to onboard customers. You'll be the first engineer on that team: the senior anchor who sets the technical standards and guides the intermediate and junior engineers who join after you.

You'll build and enhance ETL code on AWS that ingests partner data, transforms it reliably, and delivers it to customers, including through Snowflake data sharing

What You’ll Do

  • Act as the technical anchor for a new team: set the coding, testing and pipeline standards later hires will follow

  • Mentor and onboard the intermediate and junior engineers who join after you

  • Build, enhance and maintain ETL pipelines on AWS, primarily with AWS Glue, Python and SQL

  • Customize existing pipelines for each new customer implementation

  • Ingest and normalize data files from pharmacy and healthcare data partners

  • Deliver curated data to customers through Snowflake and Snowflake data sharing

  • Design pipelines that handle protected health information safely: access controls, encryption, de-identification and audit trails

  • Work with Business Analysts and client stakeholders to turn data specs into working pipelines, and explain technical trade-offs clearly

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience building and owning production ETL/ELT pipelines

  • Strong SQL and Python

  • Hands-on AWS Glue experience, plus the surrounding AWS data stack (S3, IAM, Step Functions or similar orchestration)

  • Working experience with Snowflake

  • Experience working with healthcare data in production

  • Understanding of healthcare data regulation (HIPAA in the US) and how it shapes engineering: PHI handling, minimum-necessary access, de-identification, encryption and audit logging

  • Strong communication skills in English: explains technical decisions to US client stakeholders and documents work clearly

  • Track record of mentoring engineers or setting technical direction on a team

Nice to Have

  • Snowflake data sharing (Secure Data Sharing, Snowflake Marketplace) or Delta Sharing

  • Specialty pharmacy data experience (dispense, patient status, hub and claims data)

  • Experience with partner file feeds (SFTP, flat files, schema validation)

  • Experience as the first or founding engineer on a new team

Soft Skills

  • Strong and empathetic leadership.

  • Proven client-facing experience.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong expectation management abilities.

  • Strategic mindset with a solution-oriented approach and strong decision-making skills.

About this role

Source Meridian is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to be the founding member of a new data engineering team at a specialty pharmacy data platform client. You'll own the technical foundation from day one—establishing coding standards, pipeline architecture, and best practices that junior and intermediate engineers will follow as the team grows. This is a leadership-through-example role where your decisions on how to build and maintain ETL systems will shape the team's culture and capabilities.

The core work involves designing and building AWS-based ETL pipelines using Glue, Python, and SQL to ingest pharmacy and healthcare partner data, transform it reliably, and deliver it to customers via Snowflake. You'll customize pipelines for each new customer, handle protected health information securely (HIPAA compliance, encryption, access controls, audit trails), and translate business requirements into working systems. Mentoring will be a significant part of your contribution as you onboard and guide the engineers who join after you.

You'll need at least five years of production ETL experience, strong SQL and Python skills, and hands-on expertise with AWS Glue and the surrounding data stack. Healthcare data experience and HIPAA knowledge are essential, as is proven ability to communicate clearly with US stakeholders and document technical decisions. The role is based in Medellín and requires in-office work. Source Meridian offers a permanent contract, competitive salary, and a benefits package centered on health and wellbeing.
