    About this role

Ascension's Cardiac ICU Nurse Intern position in Wichita offers hands-on clinical experience in a high-acuity setting while you pursue your nursing degree. You'll work directly with a preceptor, supporting cardiac patients through essential care activities, vital sign monitoring, and documentation. Beyond bedside tasks, you'll contribute meaningfully to care planning by reporting patient observations and test results that inform clinical decisions, giving you early exposure to how nurses shape patient outcomes.

The role requires current BLS certification (obtained within your first month) and enrollment in an accredited nursing program, with classes starting within 90 days of hire. A high school diploma or GED is the only educational prerequisite; no prior nursing or healthcare experience is necessary. You'll also support unit operations—preparing and transporting patients, maintaining a safe environment—which rounds out your understanding of how a cardiac ICU functions as a system.

This internship suits someone ready to commit to nursing education while gaining real clinical foundation in a structured, mentored environment. Ascension, a large nonprofit Catholic health system, emphasizes a supportive culture and is recognized as a top healthcare employer, suggesting access to resources and professional development during your training year.
