SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
MATERIAL FLOW TECHNICIAN (STARSHIP)
Material Flow Technicians are focused on setting up physical processes and system configuration to support new production cell and materials layouts, as well as continuous improvement. They are skilled with understanding material flow principles including lineside presentation setup, dense storage solutions, efficient carts and racks for material movement and packaging standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up new material flow processes and part presentation for new build cells according to general material flow standards and engineering designs, including both physical infrastructure and system configuration
- Focused on the efficient implementation of material flow engineering designs, skilled at all the tasks relevant to setting up material flow processes including layout implementation, racking and floor location setup, part labeling, building carts for material movement, slotting small parts into gravity flow racking to drive operator efficiency
- Own small part flow setup including locations, space efficient packaging and min/max consistent with overall supply chain strategy
- Provide input into packaging and part flow designs that maximize part density and efficient handling while maintaining part quality
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within materials management
- Support project management for new process and cell implementation by providing input into the timeline, helping create a bill of materials for the project and managing the effective storage and delivery of project materials
- Be prepared to provide surge support to the Materials Management operations teams as needed across the full range of skills including receiving, put away, picking, shipping and lineside (Production Coordinator) support
- Ensure high level of inventory accuracy for all production material by completing timely transactions and cycle counting as needed to identify gaps
- Maintain the tools needed for process improvement including mobile equipment, hand tools and any other miscellaneous supplies
- Ensure a complete disposition of any obsolete or orphaned material because of the new process or cell implementation
- Maintain current certifications on all relevant Materials Management equipment and processes needed for the role
- Provide input to leaders and engineers on potential safety hazards when setting up new processes and locations

About this role
At SpaceX's Starbase facility, this role centers on designing and implementing the physical infrastructure that moves materials efficiently through Starship production cells. You'll set up lineside part presentation, configure storage systems, build carts and racks, and manage small-parts flow—translating engineering designs into working layouts that keep production moving. The work spans both hands-on setup (labeling, slotting parts, organizing inventory locations) and problem-solving, as you'll identify improvement opportunities, contribute to packaging designs that maximize density, and help project teams plan timelines and bill of materials for new processes.
You'll need at least three years in an industrial operations or process improvement environment, strong MS Office skills, and comfort reading CAD drawings. Experience with hand and power tools is essential. The role demands physical capability—standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and working at heights up to 500 feet—plus flexibility for shift work (first or third shift), overtime, and weekends as production needs dictate. Aerospace, automotive, or semiconductor manufacturing background is valued, as are supply chain certifications or MRP/ERP system knowledge.
This is a full-time, in-office position requiring U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to ITAR export compliance. The role suits someone who combines hands-on technical skills with process thinking and wants to contribute directly to manufacturing at scale.
