About this role
Motive's Workforce Management team is building backend systems that help large-scale physical operations manage their workforce more effectively. As a Backend Engineer in Bangalore, you'd own projects end-to-end—from designing scalable services to maintaining and improving existing systems—while working on one of the company's fastest-growing product lines. The role balances greenfield work with supporting established infrastructure, and you'd collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering teams to solve complex reliability and performance challenges.
You'll need at least five years of professional software engineering experience and solid fundamentals across distributed systems, relational databases, APIs, and cloud infrastructure. Proficiency in languages like Java, Go, Python, Ruby, or JavaScript is expected, along with hands-on experience in microservices, testing, and CI/CD practices. The role also values independent judgment—you should be comfortable driving technical decisions and mentoring teammates as you contribute to engineering standards across the organization.
This is a full-time, in-office position in Bangalore. Motive serves nearly 100,000 customers across transportation, construction, energy, field service, and other industries, so your work directly impacts how safety, operations, and finance teams manage fleets and spend.
