About this role
Topel Forman's Family Office Services team is building out its Chicago practice and looking for a Staff Accountant who can grow with the expanding division. You'd handle core accounting work—transaction recording, general ledger maintenance, financial statement preparation—for a specialized client base of closely held companies, trusts, estates, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals. The role sits at the intersection of accounting and client service, meaning you'd also own relationship management, research discrepancies, and communicate potential tax and risk issues to both clients and the firm's audit and tax teams.
This position suits someone with one to three years of accounting experience who's ready to take on more responsibility and help shape how the practice operates. You'll need solid technical skills—advanced Excel, proficiency in MS Office, and ideally some QuickBooks or Asset Vantage experience—plus a strong grasp of U.S. GAAP and the ability to read complex financial statements. Beyond the technical side, the firm values problem-solving, client service orientation, and the ability to manage competing deadlines during busy seasons.
The role is hybrid based in Chicago, with a 35-hour workweek during slower periods. Compensation ranges from $70,000 to $80,000 with annual merit increases and discretionary bonus eligibility. A CPA and prior public accounting experience are preferred but not required; the firm emphasizes learning agility and a collaborative approach to growth.
