About this role

Ascension's orthopedic unit in Austin is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse to provide direct patient care in hip and knee specialization. Working under the supervision of RNs and physicians, you'll assess patient conditions, administer medications, perform diagnostic tests, and monitor for treatment responses—all while maintaining the clinical standards required in a fast-paced hospital setting. The role demands strong observation skills and the ability to catch subtle changes in patient status that matter for safe recovery.

Beyond clinical tasks, you'll educate patients and families on discharge planning and at-home care, helping them transition confidently from hospital to recovery. This requires both technical competence in orthopedic nursing and genuine empathy for patients navigating post-operative or injury-related challenges. Ascension emphasizes a culture of service and connection, positioning this as part of a larger mission-driven healthcare system rather than a transactional position.

To qualify, you'll need an active LVN license from the Texas Board of Nursing and BLS certification (obtained within 30 days of hire). Orthopedic experience is preferred but not strictly required if you bring a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant clinical work. The role is full-time, in-office in Austin.
