About this role
Ascension's Surgical Technologist role in Austin centers on the technical precision and coordination that spine and orthopedic surgery demands. You'll prepare specialized operating rooms, manage complex instrumentation and implants, assist in patient positioning on specialized frames, and serve as the surgical team's hands during procedures—passing hardware, biologics, and instruments with accuracy while maintaining strict sterile protocols throughout high-volume cases. The work requires meticulous attention to detail, particularly in tracking and counting delicate components across extended procedures.
To qualify, you'll need BLS certification within your first month and either NBSTSA or NCCT surgical tech credentials (timelines vary by credential type). The position requires a high school diploma plus two years of relevant experience, an associate's degree, or four years of direct surgical tech work. Prior experience with orthopedic and spinal systems is strongly preferred, ideally three or more years in this specialty. You'll work Monday through Friday day shifts with on-call rotation responsibilities as part of Ascension's nonprofit Catholic health system in Austin.
