About this role

Ascension's Surgical Technologist role in Austin centers on the technical precision required in spine and orthopedic surgery. You'll prepare and maintain operating rooms with specialized equipment and instrumentation, assist in patient positioning on complex surgical frames, and pass instruments and implants to the surgical team with exacting accuracy. The work demands meticulous attention during lengthy procedures—maintaining sterile fields, performing continuous hardware counts, and handling delicate biologic materials and medications in high-volume cases.

This position requires either NCCT surgical tech certification before hire or NBSTSA certification within six months, plus BLS certification within 30 days. You'll need a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience, or an associate degree, or four years of direct surgical experience. The role strongly prefers candidates with three or more years specifically in orthopedic spine procedures and familiarity with complex hardware and instrumentation systems.

You'll work Monday through Friday day shifts with on-call rotation in a full-time, in-office capacity at an Ascension facility. This is a role suited to someone with established surgical tech credentials or near-completion of certification, who thrives in the technical demands of orthopedic and spine surgery and wants to deepen expertise in that specialty.
