Description

IT Manager

Who We Are

Boston-based company Piaggio Fast Forward Inc. (PFF) was founded in 2015 by the Piaggio Group (the Italian manufacturer that created the iconic Vespa scooter). We are on a mission to build technology products that move the way that people move. To bring products to market today, PFF is solving the problem of robotic interaction with people in dynamically changing environments. We’re innovators, neighbors, and creators with a passion for local living and pushing the limits on urban transportation. We support a sustainable mobility ecology with healthy lifestyles and social connectivity available to all, regardless of age or abilities.

The Role

Piaggio Fast Forward (PFF) is seeking a versatile, proactive, and highly organized IT Manager to serve as the primary technology resource for our company. As our in-house IT expert, you will wear many hats—from troubleshooting daily user issues and provisioning equipment, to managing our network infrastructure and safeguarding our data. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in an autonomous environment and can translate technical concepts to non-technical team members with patience and clarity.

What You'll Do

  • IT Operations & Strategy: Build, manage, and optimize all internal IT operations, systems, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Vendor Management: Act as the primary liaison with third-party technology vendors, internet service providers, and software support teams.
  • Budgeting & Planning: Develop and manage the annual IT budget, forecast technology expenditures, and align software/hardware investments with business objectives.
  • Policy & Compliance: Establish and enforce IT security, data privacy, device usage, and remote work policies. Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations.
  • Project Management: Plan and execute IT projects end-to-end, including cloud migrations, system upgrades, office expansions, and software rollouts.
  • Infrastructure & Systems Administration: Install, configure, and maintain local network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi), servers, and storage systems.
  • Cloud & User Administration: Manage identity and access management systems (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Azure AD / Entra ID, Active Directory, Okta).
  • Cybersecurity & Data Protection: Implement network security measures, endpoint protection, patch management, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and automated backup/disaster recovery solutions.
  • End-User Support: Provide primary or escalation support for workstation hardware, operating systems (Windows/macOS), software applications, and network connectivity issues.
  •

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in IT systems administration, network administration, or IT support engineering.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory, team lead, or sole-contributor IT manager role with direct responsibility for overall IT environment health.
  • Proven track record of managing end-to-end IT projects without heavy external assistance.
  • Deep familiarity with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, VLANs, firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, SonicWall, Cisco Meraki), and wireless networking.
  • Expert administrative capability in Microsoft 365 / Entra ID or Google Workspace, as well as Windows Server or Linux environments.
  • Experience with MDM/RMM tools (e.g., Intune, Jamf, NinjaOne, Datto) for automated device provisioning, patching, and monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience configuring firewalls, antivirus/antimalware systems, spam filtering, and automated cloud/on-premise backups (e.g., Datto).
  • Successful applicants will be asked to show proof that they can legally work in the U.S

Yearly Base Salary Range for this position is $125.000 to $155,000

About this role

Piaggio Fast Forward, the Boston-based robotics and urban mobility company founded by the Vespa manufacturer, is looking for an IT Manager to build and run their entire technology infrastructure from the ground up. This is a fully remote, full-time role where you'll be the primary IT resource—handling everything from day-to-day user support and vendor relationships to network architecture, cloud administration, cybersecurity, and strategic IT planning. You'll report directly into the company's operational needs and have real autonomy to shape how technology supports their mission around robotic mobility solutions.

The role demands someone with at least five years of hands-on systems or network administration experience, plus two years managing IT operations independently or as a team lead. You'll need solid expertise across Microsoft 365 / Entra ID or Google Workspace, network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VLANs, wireless), Windows Server or Linux, and modern device management tools like Intune or Jamf. Hands-on firewall configuration, endpoint protection, backup and disaster recovery setup, and the ability to run IT projects end-to-end without heavy vendor support are essential. This is not a role for someone who prefers narrow specialization; you need to be comfortable translating technical concepts to non-technical colleagues and thriving in an autonomous environment.

The position offers a base salary of $125,000 to $155,000 and appeals to self-starters who want real ownership over IT strategy, budgeting, and compliance at a growing, mission-driven company. You must be authorized to work in the U.S. and willing to participate in E-Verify.
