About this role
Ascension's Med Surg Float position in Austin offers bedside nursing across medical-surgical units with built-in variety—you'll move between different patient populations and care settings rather than staying in one department. The role centers on developing individualized care plans grounded in evidence, monitoring patients for clinical changes, coordinating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, and managing the logistics of safe discharge. You'll need to balance direct patient care with communication and planning responsibilities.
To qualify, you must hold an active RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing and obtain BLS certification within your first month. A nursing diploma or degree is required; one year of med-surg experience is preferred but not mandatory, making this accessible to newer nurses willing to work in a float capacity. Advanced certifications like ACLS and PALS are preferred additions. You'll be working full-time on-site in a large nonprofit Catholic health system known for supporting its workforce and recognized as a top healthcare employer.
