About this role

Astera Labs is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer for Field Applications to serve as the primary technical authority for customers deploying its high-speed connectivity solutions in AI infrastructure. You would own customer escalations from initial architecture through production, leading debug efforts on Ethernet and PCIe systems while translating complex system requirements into reliable designs. This role demands deep expertise in high-speed interfaces, physical-layer behavior, and signal integrity—you'll analyze everything from link training failures to interoperability issues, partnering with internal engineering teams to drive root-cause resolution and influence product improvements.

The position sits at the intersection of customer success and product development. You'll work closely with sales, product management, and design engineering to capture requirements, shape application strategies, and create technical collateral that accelerates customer adoption. Mentoring junior field applications engineers and building scalable support processes are also core to the role. The ideal candidate brings 8–20 years in field or systems engineering with hands-on experience in Ethernet and PCIe ecosystems, board-level bring-up, and lab instrumentation. Experience with next-generation PCIe generations, data-center platforms, or reference design development is valued.

This is a full-time, onsite position in San Jose with travel to customer locations. The salary range is $205,000–$260,000 based on experience and level, with potential for discretionary bonus and benefits.
