About this role
Project Play Therapy is seeking a licensed mental health counselor to deliver direct therapy services within Nashville-area schools, including charter and public schools across middle Tennessee. You would work embedded within school settings, providing counseling to students with varying emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs—some with IEPs, some without. The role requires you to manage your own caseload across assigned school(s), conduct intake sessions with families, maintain detailed records in the company's EMR system, and coordinate care with school staff, parents, and outside agencies as needed. Crisis support and session planning are part of the day-to-day work.
Success in this position hinges on strong communication and collaboration skills. You'll need to adapt your approach across different audiences—students, families, school administrators, and internal Project Play teams—while building trust and rapport with each school partner. The company emphasizes proactive problem-solving, advocacy for students, and the ability to work seamlessly within a school's existing culture and processes. Reliability and integrity are non-negotiable, as is your willingness to engage in meetings and stakeholder discussions.
You must hold a Master's degree and a current Tennessee license (LPC, LMFT, LCSW, Licensed School Counselor, or Licensed School Psychologist); temporary licenses are acceptable with proof of supervision. Prior school-based experience is preferred but not required. This is a contract position based in Nashville, working in-office at your assigned school(s).
