Metron's Portland office is looking for a mid-level software engineer to own features across the full development lifecycle—from early-stage prototyping through deployment and sustainment. The role emphasizes core application logic with some GUI development, and you'd collaborate directly with research scientists, engineers, and end users to translate complex technical needs into practical software solutions.
You'll need at least three years of professional software development experience and a strong foundation in object-oriented design using Java, C++, or C#. Experience building applications, services, or APIs is required, along with some exposure to frontend development. A bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related technical field is also required. U.S. citizenship is mandatory, as is eligibility for a security clearance to access classified information.
The role is based in Portland and requires in-office work. Desired experience includes high-performance multithreaded programming, Python for scientific computing, modern frontend frameworks like React or TypeScript, and familiarity with cloud and containerized deployment environments. Metron is employee-owned and offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and profit sharing.
